OZORA
The community of Ozora is situated halfway between Lake Balaton and river Danube on the range of Tolna Hills. The settlement on this picturesque land was first mention by historic sources as the land of the Ozora family in 1315. The two storied, square castle was constructed by King Zsigmond’s Florentine General, Pipó Ozorai, at the beginning of the 15th century. The castle is considered to be unique among Hungary’s monuments and generates an intense medieval atmosphere. Nowadays the castle visions the renaissance period, the renovated and reconstructed stonework decorates the courtyard and the corridors.
Since 2007 it has been waiting its visitors as a museum exposing the spouse of Filippo Scolari (Pipó Ozorai), Borbála’s bedchamber besides the renaissance throne room and the posh dining room. Investigating the upstairs rooms we can discover the culture of knights at the time of king Zsigmond, the used weapon in the castle’s armory, respectively. Ozora and the outskirts offer grade hiking tours and fishing ponds await fishermen.
