This castle is situated 70 km north of Prague near the village Sychrov. It is unique example of Neo-Gothic castle from second half of 19th century. A beautiful large park surrounds the castle. Since the 15th century, a fort exited in the place now occupied by Sychrov. During the years between 1690 and 1693, a small baroque castle was constructed here. In 1820 the castle was bought by the Rohan family, French aristocrats exiled by the French Revolution who decided to stay int he Austrian Empire. The 125 -year –long ownership by the Rohans proved to be the most important in the castle’s history. The amasing castle boasts a collection of around 250 portraits of the Rohans, related families and French kings. It is the largest collection of French portrait paintings in Central Europe. The famous composer Antonín Dvořak visited the famous castle several times, and several of his works were inspired by its beauty. Today Sychrov is a popular place for wedding ceremonies. The castle became popular for the Scottish games that take places there every year in August. You can visit the Gothic-Revival-style castle all year around. An extensive exhibition engages you in the lifestyle of the nobility in the second half of 19th century, when the castle flourished.
